Nashed Dr. B. Gurel research lies at the interface of symplectic topology and Hamiltonian dynamics with particular focus on the existence question for periodic orbits of Hamiltonian systems. She uses Floer homological and holomorphic curve techniques to establish existence results of a general nature and also concerning particular systems such as those describing the motion of a charge in a magnetic field. Recently, Dr. Gurel has been investigating Hamiltonian systems with infinitely many periodic orbits

Dr. B. Gurel has received her PhD from the University of California, Santa Cruz, where her advisor was V.L. Ginzburg. She joined the UCF in 2013 as an assistant professor of mathematics.
